The Long Term Acute Care (LTCH) Division of Sonoma Specialty Hospital is designed to provide care of medically complex patients who have experienced catastrophic illness and/or multi-system failure and are in need of intense rehabilitation services and an extended stay in an acute care setting. These patients usually come directly from a Short Term Acute Care Hospital (STCH) and are in need of vent weaning and acute rehabilitation services for a longer period of time to recover and return to their optimal level of health. The average length of stay (ALOS) of these patients is a range of 25-35 days which is a longer than average stay at a Short Term Acute Care Hospital. Care for these types of patients is provided by RNs, Respiratory Therapists, Wound Care Nurses, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Therapists. Also a collaborative team of specialty physicians, psychologists, dieticians, and social workers will focus on an individualized goal for each patient to recover and reach their independence and optimum level of health.is a missing piece in the continuum of care within the health care system.
Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting with patient care, maintaining department efficiency and other duties, as assigned by the physician in a specialized acute care setting. Participates in daily operations under the nurse supervisor or manager. Works with physicians and nursing staff to provide updated information regarding wound care.
Requirements:
- BLS Certification
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program.
- Possess and maintain a valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) state certification.
- Certified Wound Specialist (preferred).
Responsibilities:
- The Medical Assistant works under general supervision to perform a variety of procedures; fills in and performs various patient-specific job duties; must have knowledge of each clinical task assigned; must keep updated on any changes made within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
- Assists licensed personnel with removal of dressing, wound measurements, wound debridement, biopsies and cultures, and application of dressing.
- Collects relevant data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
- Provides learning opportunities for patients/family members and team members.
- Maintains appropriate supply of equipment and materials.
- Maintains complete, accurate, concise, legible documentation of patient status, interventions and responses.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
