Overview
Under the direction of the Director of Diagnostic Services and Director of Information Systems, the Diagnostic Imaging Systems Administrator is responsible for daily operations, and maintenance of all the Diagnostic Imaging Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), Radiology Information System (RIS) and the imaging-specific dictation and transcription system at Sonoma Valley Hospital. Performs the role of Xray/CT Technologist as needed.
Responsibilities
Analyzes and monitors system performance and make proactive recommendations for improving system performance and stability. Maintains data integrity of all digital imaging systems and its integration with the hospital electronic health record (EHR). Monitors and resolves issues with system exception lists, unread exams and other quality assurance measures.
Ensures exams are performed match the physician orders and charges are created accurately and timely prior to creation of patient bills. Works with patient accounting to ensure charges meets current regulatory requirements.
Conducts analysis of clinician imaging workflows and proactively recommends redesign to meet radiologist needs based on system capabilities. This includes but not limited to hanging protocols for PACS systems agree upon by the radiologists for each type of diagnostic studies. Maintains the templates used with the radiology dictation system meets current regulatory requirements.
Coordinates & communicates application problems and resolutions with the Information Systems department and vendor support in ensuring all diagnostic imaging information systems are meeting the business and clinical needs of the radiologists, technologists and other providers such as emergency room physicians and hospitalists working at the hospital.
Develops and delivers education services to maintain staff competencies in Diagnostic Imaging departments related to the consistent and appropriate use of clinical systems integrated with the PACS, RIS and radiology transcription system.
Continually optimizes the available PACS tool set to enable radiologists and technologists and stay highly efficient in providing care. This includes but not limited to the maintenance of working exam hanging protocols agreed upon by the radiologists for each type of diagnostic studies.
Ensures assigned projects remain on time, on budget, stays within the specified implementation and maintains constant communication with internal and external project stakeholders such as the Director of Diagnostic Imaging as well as the Medical Director in addition to the Chief Information Officer.
Maintains daily operations by continuous analysis of user processes to ensure optimal utilization of available systems. Provides end user support during working hours and off hours during unexpected system outages.
Maintains knowledge on all Diagnostic Imaging systems and work processes. Monitor all logs for errors in the applications.
Responsible for system data management and integrity of the PACS system including worklist management, data reconciliation, monitoring performance of all components to support 24/7 diagnostic imaging operations.
Coordinates and performs in-depth application tests and system compatibility with other existing systems as applications are newly implemented or upgraded.
Records, tracks, and documents the help desk incident-solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made and actions taken, including and up to resolution of the incident.
Qualifications
Education: College diploma or university degree in the field of diagnostic imaging system management or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Experience: Minimum five (5) years experience as a radiologic technologist, performing various radiology procedures; previous experience with system implementation and processes.
License or Certification: Valid and current California CRT, ARRT Certification & Registration Radiologic Technologist preferred.
Required Skills or Experience: Working knowledge of the current RIS, PACS and dictation systems used at the hospital. Strong and in-depth knowledge and understanding of work within a diagnostic imaging department and the department's impact to hospital operations. Sound understanding of state and federal laws, as it relates to radiology workflows, privacy practices and care delivery in a hospital setting. Excellent interpersonal skills along with strong communication and project management. Proficiency in how computer system work, interconnectivity of diagnostic modalities and healthcare information technology standards including but not limited to DICOM and HL7. Required to work as a radiologic technologist part time to maintain licensure requirement.
