Position Summary
This position provides comprehensive environmental, health and safety technical expertise and support for the Environmental Health and Safety Manager for the development, implementation and administration of the environmental health and safety program to ensure all applicable regulatory compliance and to foster a culture of safety within our organization. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
Core Functions
- Supports the environmental, health and safety program for assigned sites to reduce injuries and ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations. Works with site employees and leadership to identify, evaluate and control environmental, health and safety hazards. Works with leadership and EHS team to implement injury prevention controls and mitigate risk in respective work areas. Participates in policy development, implementation, and enforcement. Reviews and standardizes procedures between sites where possible.
- Performs routine and ad hoc environmental, health and safety inspections for assigned sites. Provides risk assessments to minimize and mitigate injuries or potential exposure in response to identified opportunities. Assists in the determination of the level of containment/control required for current and future situations. Conducts post mitigation follow-up ensuring consistent and sustainable risk mitigation.
- Works with System Leadership to investigate all work-related injuries that occur at assigned sites. Determines root cause and corrective action as necessary. Provides assistance and guidance for System Leadership in implementation of corrective action to prevent recurring injuries. Performs ergonomic evaluations of work areas/workstations, as needed.
- Facilitates compliance with local, state, federal regulatory and accrediting agencies (CAP, OSHA, EPA, etc.) regarding environmental, patient and employee safety issues. Conducts regulatory compliance surveillance and tracks mitigation within assigned sites. Is a regulatory compliance liaison during inspections and investigations. Remains current with regulations.
- Facilitates and provides environmental, health and safety training, as required. Evaluates, reviews, and updates environmental, health and safety training, as necessary, to remain compliant with current regulations. Ensures system employees receive documented safety and health training, as required.
- Promotes, supports, and exhibits behaviors consistent with Mission, Vision and Values of Laboratory Sciences of Arizona and Sonora Quest Laboratories. Fosters a teamwork environment with strong emphasis on patient, visitor, employee, and customer-focused care.

- Must possess knowledge of environmental, occupational health and safety regulations as normally obtained through the completion of an associate degree in life science, occupational safety, environmental studies, industrial hygiene technologies or engineering, and two (2) years of experience developing, administering and implementing environmental, health and safety programs, or, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must possess knowledge of applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies: College of American Pathologists (CAP); U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements; either U.S. EPA regulations and/or Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) regulations; OSHA Recordkeeping, Blood borne Pathogen, Hazard Communication and General Industry Safety Standards.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Work experience in health care and/or clinical Laboratory and navigating complex business structures
- Additional related education and/or experience with the following: OSHA 30 Hour Course, HazWOper, First aid and CPR training.
