Job Overview:

As a Phlebotomy Tech I Float position, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services, working closely with patients, healthcare providers, and laboratory staff. Your primary duties will include collecting and processing biological specimens, accurately entering patient information into our computer system, and preparing samples for analytical testing.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Specimen Collection and Preparation: Collect blood and other biological specimens from patients in various locations, ensuring correct patient identification and specimen integrity using appropriate techniques for all age groups. Prepare samples for analytical testing, following established departmental procedures and practices.
2. Patient Data Entry: Accurately enter patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, clinical information, and other pertinent data found on requisitions and computer-generated orders. Verify accuracy of entered information and appropriateness of received specimens.
3. Quality Control and Assurance: Focus on quality by ensuring all work performed is accurate and complete. Complete documents legibly and accurately per site protocol, following established methods and practices. Maintain familiarity with departmental procedures, using appropriate documentation to record communications. Initiate computer-generated reports as required for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring.
4. Clinical and Technical Skills: Demonstrate basic knowledge of medical terminology and participate in department initiatives to reduce costs and improve service. Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through the appropriate use of supplies and materials, avoiding excessive waste. Develop strong communication skills, interacting with co-workers with an emphasis on teamwork and a focus on customer service.
5. Professional Growth: Actively participate and provide input to dept/system via committees or Six Sigma teams. Maintain acceptable specimen rejection rates and meet departmental standards for productivity and quality as currently defined. Progression through career ladder II-IV is subject to completion of career ladder requirements.
Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent may be required dependent on state regulatory requirements.
• Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience.
• Basic knowledge of department resource materials.
