Summary: The Pool Manager is responsible for the safety of the patrons, enforcing pool rules, assisting with facility maintenance, and assisting the Aquatics Coordinator with the operation of the Sonterra MUD pools to fulfill the purpose and mission of the Aquatics Program.

*This is a summer position that starts before Memorial Day and concludes on Labor Day.

Organizational Relationships:

Reports to: Aquatics Coordinator

Other: Works Closely with Aquatic Manager and other Parks and Recreation Staff

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prevents accidents and minimizes or eliminates hazardous situations.
  • Responds quickly to all emergency situations in the water and performs water rescues.
  • Communicates with Aquatics Coordinator the need for additional assistance or equipment.
  • Assists the Aquatics Coordinator with in-service training of Aquatics staff.
  • Observes and enforces all facility rules and regulations pertaining to staff and patrons. Educates the staff and patrons and informs them of the purpose of and the need for rules and regulations.
  • Assists in planning, implementing, and enforcing staff rotation and schedules. Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports and logs.
  • Performs adjustments to the chemical and filtration systems at the pool as trained and authorized by the Aquatics Coordinator. Performs various pool maintenance functions such as back-washing, cleaning strainer baskets, filters, the pump room area and vacuuming the pool.
  • Ensure all safety checklists have been completed before the facility opens to patrons, reports any issues to the Aquatic Coordinator or Pool Tech immediately.
  • Assists the Aquatics Coordinator with supervision of lifeguard staff.
  • Responsible for handling questions and concerns from patrons.
  • Presents and maintains a professional appearance and demeanor, including wearing appropriate uniform or attire and exhibiting respect and enthusiasm as duties and responsibilities are carried out.
  • Knowledge and command competency in American Red Cross Lifeguarding standards as well as facility specific emergency procedures for the Sonterra MUD Aquatics Department.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have good knowledge of pool safety and first aid.
  • Must be available to work irregular hours and at various intervals, including weekends, holidays, and evening hours.
  • Must be able to work well with people of all ages and dispositions as well as be an effective leader.
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  • Knowledge of philosophy, objectives, and requirements to provide safe recreational and work environments.
  • Ability to function effectively under direct supervision and to develop effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to receive directions and to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Exhibit professional work habits including reliability, dependability, creativity, and demonstration of enthusiasm for the job.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must be 18 years of age, currently enrolled in high school, or possess a GED.
  • Previous lifeguarding experience.
  • Texas Driver’s License and reliable transportation are required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Must hold valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding with First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification or equivalent.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Certification (LGI) preferred
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification (WSI) preferred
  • Completed 1 season (10 weeks) of full-time or 2 seasons (20 weeks) part-time life-guarding experience.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push, pull, drag up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; the noise level in the work environment is usually Moderate to loud.

Candidate Additional Information:

  • Must supply two references along with work experience in resume
  • Interviews for this position will take place in late March, early April.

Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal

Pay: $20.00 - $21.25 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Evening shift
  • Rotating weekends
