We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Pharmacy Technician to join our healthcare team at a Correctional Facility in California. This position requires a high level of professionalism, technical expertise, and the ability to work effectively within a secure, structured environment. The Pharmacy Technician will support the Pharmacy Department in delivering critical pharmaceutical services to the inmate/patient population in accordance with facility standards, state and federal regulations, and applicable healthcare guidelines.
Qualification Requirements:
All Temporary/Relief Pharmacy Technicians assigned to a correctional facility must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Twelve (12) continuous months of experience within the last three (3) years performing services similar in scope to those defined herein in a public or private institution.
- Possess and maintain a current and valid license issued by the State of California, Board of Pharmacy, in order to perform services in the State of California.
- Temporary/Relief Pharmacy Technicians must be proficient in the English language and able to communicate effectively within the correctional facility. They must be able to understand, speak, read, and write effectively in English. Any Temporary/Relief Pharmacy Technician who does not meet these minimum qualifications shall not be permitted to provide services.
Service Delivery Requirements:
Under the direction of the Pharmacist-in-Charge, Pharmacist, or designee, the Temporary/Relief Pharmacy Technician shall provide services permitted within the scope of practice for a Pharmacy Technician, in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, and the correctional facility’s policies and procedures. Minimum requirements and services include, but are not limited to, the following:
a. Receive prescription/medical orders
b. Obtain information on new patients/youth to establish a medical profile, such as diagnosis or desired therapeutic outcome, allergies, adverse reactions, and medical history
c. Assess prescription/medication orders for completeness, correctness, authenticity, and legality
d. Enter prescription information into the patient/youth profile
e. Calibrate equipment needed to prepare or compound the prescription/medication order
f. Compound medications for dispensing according to prescription formulas or instructions
g. Measure or count finished dosage forms for dispensing
h. Record preparation of medications in various dosage forms
i. Record preparation of controlled substances for dispensing
j. Package the preparations
k. Prepare and affix label(s) and auxiliary label(s) to containers
l. Perform intermediate checks of prescription/medication orders during processing
m. Maintain drug and supply inventory and related records
n. Deliver medication to clinics/nursing staff and organize medications
o. Review pharmacy stock for expired drugs
p. Assist the Pharmacist-in-Charge, Pharmacist, or designee in identifying and resolving problems with patient/youth therapy
q. Perform other duties as assigned.
