Licensing Requirements
- Must hold a current and valid California Phlebotomy license from the CDPH-LFS.
- All required certifications must be current and maintained throughout the term of engagement.
- Renewed licenses/certifications must be provided at least 30 calendar days before expiration.
- Licenses must be free of any adverse actions and verified through appropriate boards.
- Compliance with 8 CCR 5199 standards is required, including:
- Medical clearance for N95 and PAPR respirator use.
- Annual respiratory protection training and Appendix G questionnaire completion.
Qualification Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of six (6) continuous months of phlebotomy experience within the last three (3) years in a public or private institution. (Internships do not count toward this requirement.)
- Language: Must be proficient in English (spoken and written).
Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of medical leadership, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performing venipuncture and finger sticks using standard equipment.
- Communicating clearly with patients about procedures.
- Collecting and distributing specimens per lab requirements.
- Centrifuging, labeling, and storing samples for analysis.
- Maintaining inventory and restocking supplies.
- Following positive patient identification procedures.
- Assisting medical personnel with difficult draws.
- Processing and labeling biohazardous specimens.
- Recording test orders in electronic systems.
- Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Working effectively under stress or in critical situations.
Knowledge Requirements
Phlebotomist should demonstrate knowledge of:
- Pre-analytical testing phase in lab operations.
- Medical terminology and patient privacy protocols.
- Proper venipuncture techniques and blood specimen handling.
- Color-coded tubes for testing requirements.
- Infection prevention and sample cross-contamination protocols.
- Normal blood components (whole blood, serum, plasma).
- Signs of complications during blood draws.
- Expectations for normal clotting and identifying excessive bleeding.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
