What are the responsibilities and job description for the Application Security Content Marketer position at SOOS?
OVERVIEW
SOOS is growing! We’re looking for our next marketing hire: an Application Security Content Marketer. This person specializes in creating educational and informative content about application security (AppSec), including blog posts and guides, videos and tutorials, presentations, and other written and graphical content. Content must be clear and compelling and will be used to educate developers, software engineering leaders, and security teams about best practices, vulnerabilities, and threats related to securing software applications from cyberattacks across different platforms and development lifecycles.
Application security is a specialized area of cyber security and we’re looking for a Content Marketer who understands the nuances of and has created content about application security. Application security content focuses on protecting individual applications and their code from vulnerabilities, while cyber security content encompasses a broader range of protections, and this role entails a level of granularity and knowledge that’s deeper than general cyber security content. In addition, our audience doesn’t want to be sold to, so the ideal person for this role understands the need for and can create content that’s valuable to software engineering and security leaders. Because of this, experiencing marketing developer tools beyond application security tools alone will also be considered.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan content strategies to support company objectives, including sales goals.
- Research and identify opportunities for new content based on performance insights, current and target customer input, and market and competitive opportunities.
- Create educational and informative content about application security (AppSec), including blog posts and guides, videos and tutorials, presentations, graphics, and more.
- Develop instructional videos and step-by-step guidance on application security and using the SOOS platform.
- Own content distribution, including via social media, the SOOS website, and 3rd party websites such as directories and software application marketplaces where we’ll share relevant company and product information. This includes creating new posts, web pages, etc. as well as updating existing content.
- Set up tools and processes to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of different content. Be able to compare performance of and advise on resource allocation (both time and budget) across marketing channels and platforms, both paid and organic.
- Assist with ad creation, build new ad landing pages, and recommend ad campaign improvements and other marketing campaigns based on content performance insights.
- Ensure content is accurate, up-to-date, and meets SOOS brand standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- We are seeking candidates who have application security experience, either 1) analysts or engineers who have pivoted into marketing, communications, or training type roles and projects, or 2) marketers who have experience creating application security content or content for similar developer tools.
- While we do not require a minimum number of years, it is important to note that this role is not suited for beginners. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a thorough understanding and practical application of application security in content they’ve created. This criteria is essential to ensure that the individual is well-equipped to create content for and communicate effectively with our audience of software engineering managers, developers, and security leaders.
- Experience with software engineering and/or DevSecOps, including working in a CI/CD environment and with tools such as GitLab, Jira, and Interactive Development Environments (IDEs) is a plus, but not required. Equivalent experience as a marketer of developer tools, including but not limited to application security tools, will also be considered.
OTHER ATTRIBUTES TO HELP IN THIS ROLE

- Ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize information to create informative and accurate content.
- Ability to present complex technical concepts in a clear and compelling manner.
- Proven experience with communications and/or marketing to developer, software engineering, and security audiences.
- Creative in approach to content development; constantly seeking new ways to engage our ideal customers.
- Open to feedback and collaboration to continuously improve content quality.
- Eager to make a meaningful contribution to our customers’ businesses and ours by championing ways to make application security manageable for resource-strapped teams, and by helping us acquire new customers.
- Capable of working independently and managing time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail in both technical content and educational clarity.
- Demonstrated ability to measure and analyze effectiveness of different content, and to compare performance of all marketing channels to advise on marketing strategy, for example how much to focus on paid vs. organic content.
