Mauriano Sorbello immigrated to the United States of America in 1923 and worked as a sharecropper on 15 acres of muck land near Fulton, New York. In 1988, Sorbello and Sons, Inc. was formed.
Today, Sorbello and Sons is a true family farm that has expanded to include four owners: 3 generation twin brothers Dana and David Sorbello and 4 generation brothers, Dylan and Rane Sorbello. Dana's wife Elizabeth serves as Office Administrator and manages the finances; ensuring the business plan stays on the path laid out by all 4 owners. David’s wife Alexandra manages Communications and coordinates Food Safety.
Owner Dylan Sorbello created a YouTube channel "" to increase transparency between farmers and consumers; furthering Sorbello Farm’s goal to help consumers understand farm life and what it takes to grow safe, high-quality food with sustainable farming practices that are an essential part of food production in America today. As a bonus, kids of all ages love to see the big trucks, tractors and equipment we use.
Sorbello and Sons has expanded to 72,000 square feet of onion storage and packing facility to handle 362 acres of onions. All onions are stored in 20-bushel wooden boxes and are available from September 1st through April 15th. In addition, 400 acres of corn and soybeans are grown. We employ local employees as well as an average of 30 workers with H2A Visas.

Job Description:
The “Tractor-Laser Weeder Operator” will be responsible for operating the tractor with a laser Weeder attached for 8-12 hours a day. They will be in rotation with other operators. This job will be weather and field conditions permitting. From the first of May the operator will be responsible for fueling, greasing and the safety of the equipment. The unit will be operated in crop (onions) during day or night. The objective is to cover as much ground as possible while killing weeds not onions. The crop of onions will be in the flag stage when we start. This is where the onion sheds its seed shell and puts on its first true leaf. You will be expected to understand GPS guidance systems, tractor operation and the technology behind operating the Laser Weeder. You can view the operations side of that on YouTube @CarbonRobotics. There is a 24/7 call center for tech support. You will be operating a Case IH Puma 165 cvt transmission.
More specifically, the Tractor-Laser Weeder Operator will:
- be able to work 6 days per week. 8-12 hours a day.
- 5am- 5pm hours.
- farm/crop experience.
Required skills/knowledge for the office manager will:
- Minimum 10 years experience of tractor/sprayer operation or ability to prove equivalent/relevant experience
- Tech savvy
Preferred Skills are to:
- be able to speak Spanish.
- Mechanical ability to address breakdown
Compensation:
Starting pay rate is $25.00 per hour and benefits commensurate with experience.
