Job description
The Estimator will participate in all aspects of the bid and estimating process from review of plans and specs to soliciting and negotiating prices from contractors and suppliers through completion of bid / estimating package. Performs quantity take-off, pricing, scoping and bidding of a wide variety of commercial construction projects involving more complex trade packages and self-perform work.
Key Responsibilities :
Project Estimating
- Review and understand all bid documents and assess project risks.
- Understand project logistics and project schedule.
- Performs quantity take-offs.
- Leads and coordinates the pricing and bidding of large multi-discipline construction projects.
- Communicates with owners, architects and consultants to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements, and documents these clarifications.
- Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
- Collaborates with marketing for final assembly of estimate presentation to owner.
- After the bid, collects and organizes all bid information for future reference.
- Accurately develop cost models.
- Track and report on current material and labor prices, including escalation
- Develop meaningful Value Engineering contributions to reduce price.
- Identify escalation factors in marketplace for specific materials and labor rates.
- Responsible for reliable conceptual pricing assumptions with proper documentation for the basis of the estimate.
- Ability to substantiate all aspects of final estimates.
- Aids field operations with change order pricing as needed.
