Job Summary
The Payroll Operations Analyst will be responsible for compliance as it relates to current and new updates for federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Canada. Responsibilities include extensive research and implementation of various payroll and tax compliance projects which affect different aspects such as time and attendance configuration, paycheck calculations, sick/paid leave laws, payroll taxes, etc. The right candidate will possess the ability to exercise sound and independent judgment in identifying risks and in finding and recommending solutions to problems or new regulations. The Payroll Operations Analyst will possess a passion for learning new things and staying current with best practices, regulations, compliance, payroll and time and attendance systems. They must be able to work well with little supervision, but also possess the ability to work well with the entire payroll team, HR leadership, internal/external legal counsel, third party vendors, etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify, recommend, advise, and implement best practices for payroll-related compliance in time and attendance rules and configuration, paycheck calculations, sick/paid leave laws, and payroll taxes.
- Research, develop, test, implement, and track projects and new processes using best practices to ensure compliance with all current and upcoming legislation at local, state, and federal levels.
- Analyze and resolve any configuration compliance issues that arise in a timely manner.
- Own payroll SOX controls.
- Assist with internal and external payroll audits and investigations, providing necessary documentation, explanations, and support to ensure compliance. Prepare reports summarizing findings and recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain multiple payroll/HR compliance audits.
- Create, maintain, and present training material to employees and payroll team as needed, especially as it relates to payroll and tax compliance.
- Consult with Company’s management team, payroll and HR leaders, and internal or external legal counsel on projects and compliance issues.
- Work with third party vendors on system configuration regarding payroll and tax compliance for time and attendance, accruals, payroll calculations, and new federal/state/local laws.
- Assist payroll team to process all bi-weekly multi-state payrolls for the US and Canada, sharing responsibility to ensure employees are paid accurately in accordance with company policies as well as federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Ensure deadlines are met for payroll processing, special project work, year-end activities, etc.
- Act as back-up to Payroll Operations Manager to process the Canadian payroll from start to finish, including all off-cycle compliance related tasks.
- Act as back-up to others on the payroll team as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education
Preferred: 4 Year / Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field
Experience
Minimum Years of Experience:
- 3 year of experience with payroll, taxes, and compliance in multiple states
Preferred:
- 2 years of experience working on multiple projects
- Experience with UKG/UTA/Kronos
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience in federal, state, and local payroll compliance for the US, Puerto Rico, and Canada
- Able to handle and manage sensitive and confidential information in the utmost professional manner
- Can work with a team and provide guidance and training
- Strong decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Proficiency across the Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis in Excel for formulas and pivots
- Current on payroll systems, time keeping and accrual practices and state/local/federal payroll law
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Punctual and reliable attendance.
- Ability to sit and/or stand at a desk and work with a computer for extended periods of time.
- Positive attitude, team player, good interpersonal communication skills and able to work across company departments.
