Summary

The HR Manager leads and directs key functions of the Human Resources department, partnering with the Director of Human Resources other senior leadership to ensure compliance, talent strategy execution, and personnel management. This role serves as a strategic partner, fostering a positive workplace culture and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state (California-specific), and local employment laws.

Responsibilities

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensures compliance with California employment laws (wage & hour, CFRA, PDL, FEHA, Cal/OSHA, etc.) and federal regulations (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, etc.).
  • Stays current on legal and industry trends, advising leadership on best practices and potential risks.
  • Manages employee relations concerns, investigations, and workplace policies in alignment with California employment law .

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning:

  • Oversees recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified candidates in collaboration with department managers.
  • Implements strategic workforce planning initiatives, including retention and succession planning.
  • Supports diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

HR Strategy & Development:

  • Collaborates with leadership to align HR initiatives with business goals.
  • Develops and administers training programs for leadership and employees.
  • Oversees employee performance management, coaching, and development.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Analyzes and recommends competitive compensation structures aligned with California market trends.
  • Supports the administration of payroll, benefits, leave or absence, and workers' compensation, including compliance with federal and California-specific laws.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, trains, and mentors HR staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and ensures professional development.

Other HR Functions:

  • Maintains accurate HR records, including compliance reporting and audits.
  • Participates in company-wide initiatives to enhance employee engagement.
  • Performs other Human Resource duties as assigned .

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of California employment laws & compliance requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems, payroll systems, Microsoft Office, and HR-related software.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 years of HR management experience required, preferably in California.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR certification preferred.

Physical Demands

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to access and navigate each department of the facility, occasionally exert push force up to 20 pounds, must have good eye sight and hand dexterity, and able to identify and distinguish colors.

Work Environment

Standard office environment with occasional exposure to a manufacturing setting. In compliance with safety guidelines, employees may encounter noise, moving mechanical parts, and exposure to oils, solvents, fumes, and odors that could affect the eyes, ears, nose, throat, or skin.
