Sorenson Engineering is seeking a candidate with experience in manufacturing engineering, with CAD CAM development, CNC Programming, and training experience. 

Summary:

Responsible for planning, developing, designing, reviewing, and validating new Progressive Stamping tool designs and process improvement and optimization. Evaluate and continuously improve active production processes and equipment. Provide technical knowledge and support for Progressive Stamping production operations. Collaborate with organizational leaders and customers. 

Internship Level-Trainee level position to prepare for level 1 responsibilities.

Level I-Provides engineering support and expertise for Progressive Stamping production operations. Using established design principles develops routine tooling and assists in improving processes. Become familiar with design and development tools, Sorenson Engineering (SE) processes, and manufacturing standards.

Level II-In addition to Level I responsibilities, execute engineering projects as a team member with clear direction from senior engineers and senior management. Analyzes processes and provides metrics supporting process improvements and new designs. Has a strong understanding of the various SE processes and manufacturing standards.

Level III- In addition to Level I & II responsibilities, leads multidisciplinary engineering projects. Responsible for making key project decisions, solving complex engineering problems with a high-level of knowledge in applicable disciplines. Provide regular and measurable project reports as well as preparing project plans with estimated costs and timelines. Collaborates closely with senior engineers and senior management.

Level IV-In addition to Level I, II & III responsibilities, assists in identifying the direction of Progressive Stamping technology implementation. Advanced comprehension of all SE key manufacturing processes. As a subject matter expert, has exhaustive knowledge in his/her area of expertise and advises personnel within that sphere of knowledge as needed to support company objectives. Collaborates closely with senior engineers and senior management.

Essential Job Functions-

  • Design and development of progressive and single-stage die-sets
  • Setup of new & unproven die-sets in automatic and manual presses
  • Establishes methods of manufacturing for production of product.
  • Uses engineering principles in part production, assembly, tooling, design and manufacturing. Knowledge of design, tools, materials, procedures, measurement instruments and equipment involved in the production of product to ensure SE Quality objectives.
  • Familiar with the chemical composition, structure, and properties of various materials used in production and design.
  • Develops, documents, and implements engineering/production process capabilities and techniques needed for production operations.
  • Provide regular engineering updates to Senior Management
  • Leverage ERP tools as they apply to engineering, production, and procurement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance. Competent in the use of engineering software. Familiar with technical standards, GD&T symbols, statistical quality control, units of measurement, and notation systems. Able to interpret instructions both written and oral. Able to work in a team environment to solve technical issues. Able to communicate technical information effectively in English.

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or a similar field is preferred. A minimum of two years’ experience in engineering and design of progressive stamping die-sets is also preferred. Working knowledge of Bruderer 3 post 30-ton stamping presses is a plus. Five years of experience in a Progressive Stamping manufacturing environment is preferred.

Physical Demands:

The candidate must periodically be able to walk to other areas of the plant, have good eyesight and hand dexterity, and be able to identify and distinguish colors. The candidate must also occasionally push, pull, or lift up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:

Within safety guidelines, there will be exposed to noise, moving mechanical parts, oils/solvents, fumes, and odors that may affect the eyes, ears, nose, throat and/or skin
