Position Summary
The Assembly Operator is responsible for carrying out various steps in the wire harness assembly process in a safe, accurate manner, while adhering to high quality standards. This work is done through following work specifications, a high degree of manual dexterity and the use of hand tools and associated equipment.
There are three classifications of Assembly Operator.
Primary Functions and Responsibilities
- Review and follow Instructions:
- Review and understand all assembly paperwork, prints, and work instructions.
- Guidance and Collaboration:
- Seek guidance if necessary to ensure accurate and precise assembly work.
- Collaborate with team members to address any assembly-related queries.
- Quality Checks:
- Conduct required quality checks throughout the assembly process.
- Identify and report process defects and nonconformances to the lead or specialist.
- Safety Compliance:
- Perform all duties in a safe manner, adhering to established safety protocols.
- Additional Duties:
- Undertake any other related duties as assigned when required.
Specific Responsibilities for Each Level:
Assembly Operator 1: (Entry-Level/ Novice)
- Work on basic assemblies, including understanding prints and basic assembly prep work.
- Tinning wires and working with larger wire components.
Assembly Operator 2: (Apprentice/ Journeyman)
- Work with semi-complex assemblies, interpreting prints and associated documents.
- Perform soldering and hand crimping tasks.
- Work with small terminal wires.
Assembly Operator 3: (Journeyman/ Expert)
- Work with complex assemblies, including advanced soldering and hand crimping.
- Demonstrate the ability to rewrite assembly processes.
- Operate self-sufficiently with little to no supervision.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Demonstrated effective organizational skills along with attention to detail are essential to this position. Basic math skills required to successfully carry out job tasks. Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills are required for this position. Prior basic experience in wire assembly and simple soldering would be of benefit, but not required. Demonstrated manual dexterity in association with wire assembly and use of hand tools.
Working Environment:
Work requires constant physical effort divided primarily between periods of standing and sitting. The work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment. Lifting up to 30 lbs. on an occasional basis is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
