SUMMARY:
Souder, Miller & Associates is hiring a part time Landfill Field Tech II-III for Arvada office, Colorado. The Landfill Technician II-III assists with projects by performing duties related to the successful completion and delivery of a project. Duties include performance of construction quality assurance field tests, observation and inspection of soils, aggregates, piping systems, geosynthetic components, and erosion control products at solid waste disposal facilities for construction of landfill cells and final cover systems. Additionally, a Landfill Technician will compile sample testing and observation data to assist a Project Manager with construction certification report submittals.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Perform soils and geosynthetics construction quality assurance for landfill construction projects to assure compliance with approved plans and specifications.
- Perform field density testing of soils using a nuclear moisture-density meter. Possess, or have the ability to obtain, proper certifications for using a nuclear moisture-density meter.
- Assists with construction surveying.
- Sample and monitor environmental control systems such as groundwater wells, gas extraction systems, and storm water discharges.
- Prepare daily field reports and manage field data in accordance with regulatory requirements and to effectively communicate testing and inspection results.
- Operate field testing equipment to perform field tests as directed and/or special inspections as required.
- Deliver material samples safely from the project site or documents to the lab for further testing and analysis.
- Document and prepare sample testing and observation data using a laptop or tablet device to accurately submit the findings to the Project Manager.
- Perform standard computations or analysis.
- Assist the Project Manager with preparing the written construction certification report.
- Ensure that all testing equipment are used properly, calibrated and maintained.
- Follow safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects.
- Perform pre-task planning prior to executing the work. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
- Assist in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
- Attend client meetings and complete field investigations, day, or night; ability to complete overnight travel unassisted, sometimes extending several consecutive nights to in excess of one week.
- Serve as onsite project representative and provide construction observation services.
- May be designated as responsible for onsite health and safety plan administration.
- Acquire and understand professional and ethical responsibilities toward co-workers, the corporation, regulatory agencies, and clients.
- Demonstrate increasing levels of efficiency and independence.
- Recognize and operate within limitations while seeking advice as needed.
- Develop awareness of potential liabilities associated with the technical aspects of the area of expertise.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. Travel to project sites over 90 miles from the home office with overnight stays (reimbursed by SMA) is a condition of employment. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- High School Diploma/GED required. Associate degree in related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the Landfill operations and maintenance preferred.
- Valid driver's license and able to pass the drug test requirements.
- Partial PTO accrual, 401K Retirement Plan, Employee Stock Options (ESOP).
SALARY RANGE: $21.00 to $35.00 (Per Hour)
TRAVEL: Up to 75%
