Job Responsibilities For Heavy Civil Assistant Estimator
- Assist in Preparing Estimates:
- Support in preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including roads, bridges, earthworks, demolition, utilities, and other infrastructure.
- Collaborate with estimators to evaluate project plans, specifications, and other documents to determine cost factors.
- Cost Analysis:
- Assist in conducting cost analysis for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Evaluate and compare bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
- Quantity Takeoffs:
- Perform quantity takeoffs from project plans and blueprints to calculate required materials and labor for various project components.
- Bid Preparation and Submission:
- Help prepare and Assist in Preparing Estimates:
- submit bid packages for project tenders, ensuring all required documents and calculations are accurate and submitted on time.
- Coordinate with the procurement team to obtain quotes from subcontractors and suppliers for various project elements.
- Project Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of cost estimates, bid submissions, and project proposals.
- Assist with the preparation of reports detailing estimates, cost changes, and potential risks for review by estimators or project managers.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure all aspects of the project are considered in the estimation process.
- Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to gather additional information, clarify specifications, and resolve discrepancies in estimates.
- Assist with Post-Bid Reviews:
- Support estimators during post-bid reviews and assist in revising estimates based on project changes or client feedback.
- Continuous Learning and Improvement:
- Stay updated on industry trends, construction methodologies, and new estimating software or tools.
- Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to the estimating role.
- Construction industry knowledge.
- Highly motivated with strong time management and organizational skills. Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong math skills and comfort level with technology, including MS Office products.
- Experience using CAD is highly preferred but not required.
