SVC specializes in both marine and land use issues; site planning and project design; project coordination; permitting and management; marine, wetland, and stream ecology; habitat restoration; wetland, stream, tree, and eelgrass delineations and assessments; benthic surveys; underwater and terrestrial-monitoring programs, mitigation planning, project planning, landscape architecture, and arborist services.

This position is perfect for a qualified and self-motivated soil scientist, biologist, ecologist, environmental scientist, or permitting specialist with Project Management experience who can manage a range of environmental projects involving wetlands, streams, protected habitats, marine shorelines, and other critical areas surrounding natural resources. Prior project management experience, preferably in the environmental industry, and possess good technical writing skills. In this role you will have a combination of fieldwork and in-office responsibilities, although heavier in office, covering the greater Puget Sound area in the realm of natural resources management.


Typical tasks include performing wetland and stream delineations, mitigation solutions, researching environmental regulations, developing project strategies, preparing environmental permit applications, managing internal mapping and design needs, and writing/reviewing technical and scientific documentation.


Collaboratively work with internal team, clients, and partners (such as regulators, civil and geotechnical engineers, surveyors, architects, archaeologists, and planners) to provide design and permitting support for a wide variety of exciting public and private development and land use projects. Representative project components include wetland assessments, compensatory wetland mitigation plans, stream restoration plans, threatened and endangered species surveys, shoreline assessments and restoration plans, tree retention plans, landscape design, and similar environmental permitting support.


Duties:


  • Manage a diverse range of natural resource and environmental planning projects.
  • Provide direction to and oversight of field biologists performing wetland, stream, habitat, shoreline delineations and assessments, and the like;
  • Manage and track preparation, review, and submittal of environmental permit applications and documentation (e.g., wetland reports, biological evaluations, JARPAs, habitat assessments, water quality plans, shoreline assessments, and mitigation plans);
  • Research and analyze critical areas codes and other environmental regulations;
  • Develop and manage project scopes, timelines, and budgets exhibiting follow-through and prioritization;
  • Collaborate with co-workers, clients, and partners to develop strategic and effective project planning solutions;
  • Build and maintain collaborative and positive relationships with regulatory staff and tribal representatives;
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to find solutions for land use planning projects;
  • Provide an exceptional level of customer service;
  • Review and approval of project invoices;
  • Understanding of the principles and practices of the environmental consulting industry;
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Skills and Experience:


  • B.S. in Environmental Sciences (e.g., biology, wetland science, ecology), Planning, or other applicable degree;
  • Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in planning, consulting, or project management;
  • Comprehensive understanding of wetland assessment methodology, freshwater, marine, and terrestrial ecology, wetland and stream mitigation, and relevant regulations such as the Clean Water Act, Shoreline Management Act, Growth Management Act, Endangered Species Act, and SEPA/NEPA;
  • Technology savvy and computer literacy at a moderate level with MS Office Products, with proficiency in Outlook and Word;
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills. Team focused and actively seeks feedback;
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and detail-oriented;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously to completion;
  • Ability to remain flexible based on business, client, and team needs;
  • Valid WA State Driver’s License (or ability to obtain) and reliable personal transportation with insurance;
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Read, write, and speak English at an expert level.

This Position is Full-time, Non-Exempt


Compensation:


  • Depending on relative experience, knowledge, and skills.
  • Eligible for bi-annual bonusing based on performance.

Pay: $80,000 to $120,000 per year
