Job Overview:
As a key member of the leadership team, you will manage labor relations, including negotiating collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), coordinating grievance procedures, and representing the company during arbitration or labor negotiations. You will work closely with legal counsel and senior management, assist with investigations, and defend against complaints filed with state and federal agencies such as the EEOC and NLRB. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience working with unions, as you will be handling relationships and negotiations with multiple unions across the country.
Key Responsibilities:
- Negotiate CBAs, analyze contract language, and resolve disputes.
- Represent management in contract negotiations, arbitrations, mediations, and legal actions.
- Monitor adherence to labor agreements, ensuring consistent application of policies and practices.
- Investigate union complaints, gather evidence, and make decisions on grievances.
- Write correspondence related to CBAs, disputes, and conciliation efforts.
- Collaborate with HR to develop and implement policies and procedures.
- Act as a liaison between employees, managers, and the company regarding CBAs.
- Draft proposals or counter-proposals for labor negotiations.
- Maintain cooperative relationships and provide timely communication with colleagues.
- Stay updated on labor laws, legal precedents, and trends, and testify at legal or legislative proceedings.
- Recommend strategies for collective bargaining and evaluate the effectiveness of business practices.
Primary Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or related field; Master's or JD preferred.
- 5-7 years of extensive labor relations experience, with a focus on working with unions, NLRA, and NLRB.
- Collective bargaining certification a plus.
- Experience with HR and labor law principles, CBAs, and related regulations.
- Ability to travel 25-50% of the time.
