Job Summary:
South Arkansas College is seeking applicants for the position of Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, organization, direction, and administration of the NJCAA Division II program. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Salary: The annual salary is contingent upon additional job duties, with a maximum of $20,750 for the Men's Basketball position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervision of student athletes, assistant coaches, and other basketball related personnel, including volunteers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruit and enroll qualified student athletes for successful participation in NJCAA basketball program.
- Plan, organize, schedule and conduct practices and games.
- Prepare a schedule in conjunction with the Athletic Director’s office that complies with institutional and departmental goals and objectives.
- Coordinate team travel.
- Monitor and support the academic progression of team members with a focus on attaining academic credentials.
- Develop and enforce team policies.
- Positively and ethically represent the men’s basketball program, the athletic department, and the institution to external constituents.
- Adhere to all NJCAA sport rules and regulations; attend all required NJCAA meetings.
- Manage and conduct a yearly inventory of all uniforms and equipment.
- Operate within all institutional and state procurement, travel, and facilities regulations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, students, media, alumni, and boosters.
- Demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship, and conduct becoming of the coaching profession.
- Develop fundraisers to improve the basketball program.
- Conduct basketball camps and/or other outreach efforts to provide a community service to the youth in our area and any other interested youths.
- Other duties as assigned by Athletic Director.
Other Job Duties:
Full-time employment is dependent upon serving in a secondary role on campus depending on the needs of the college, the qualifications and background of the employee, and/or any other considerations.
Skills and Abilities:
· Strong organizational, communications, leadership, and computer skills required.
· Excellent public speaking skills to aid in recruiting and fundraising.
· Excellent organizational ability high level of accuracy, attention to detail.
· Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and with minimal supervision.
· Travel, including overnight and/or weekend.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required; Documented coaching experience or qualification; Verifiable clean driving record.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s degree; Experience at the intercollegiate level as a coach and/or player.
Physical/Work Requirements:
Exerting up to 40 pounds occasionally. Evening and weekend hours are required. Travel to practices and games are required.
