Job Summary
South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty is seeking a skilled and compassionate Emergency Critical Care Veterinary Technician Specialist (ECC-VTS) to join our team. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in emergency and critical care while fostering a collaborative and educational environment. This position involves providing exceptional patient care, supporting a dynamic veterinary team, and contributing to professional growth through mentorship and knowledge-sharing.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care and Technical Expertise
- Deliver advanced nursing care for critically ill and emergency patients, including triage, stabilization, and monitoring.
- Administer medications, perform diagnostic tests, and manage advanced procedures such as ventilation, central line placement, and nutritional support.
- Maintain and operate advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, defibrillators, and patient monitors.
Team Collaboration and Leadership
- Support the veterinary team in creating and executing treatment plans.
- Act as a resource and mentor to other technicians, providing guidance and elevating their technical skills.
- Lead wet labs and hands-on training sessions to improve technical proficiency across the team.
Mentorship and Education
- Organize and facilitate peer-learning opportunities, including case discussions, procedural demonstrations, and workshops.
- Develop training materials and collaborate with management to implement continuing education initiatives.
Hospital and Workflow Support
- Participate in hospital rounds to ensure seamless communication and continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
- Uphold hospital protocols and safety standards.
Qualifications
Education and Licensing
- Active Veterinary Technician License in North Carolina (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
- Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification in Emergency and Critical Care.
Skills and Competencies
- Expertise in emergency and critical care procedures, including advanced diagnostics and treatments.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to foster team collaboration.
- Passion for mentoring and developing technical skills in others.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of veterinary technician experience, with a focus on emergency and critical care.
- Prior experience leading wet labs or technical training sessions preferred.
