Job Description
SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. is a local San Diego, California shipyard related subcontractor looking to hire a Temporary Outside Machinist/Pipefitter.
Job Summary
Overhaul, align, and adjust machinery equipment in place onboard ship; cut, shape, and drill various materials; assemble and disassemble mechanical parts according to technical manuals; clean and preserve parts; perform related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position; comply with all Health/Safety and Environmental Policies and Procedures. Must be in San Diego, CA we are not looking to relocate candidates at this time.
Qualification Standards
High School diploma preferred; four years' experience as outside machinist/pipefitter; training in machine shop equipment, alignment process, and blueprint reading; ability to use hand tools and measuring devices to complete outside machinist tasks; good knowledge of ship layout; ability to work at heights and in confined spaces; must be able to access and move around ship safely.
Essential Job Tasks
- Set up tools and equipment at job sites.
- Cut, shape, and drill various materials.
- Position, align, and adjust equipment in place- test equipment.
- Assemble and disassemble mechanical parts. Clean and preserve parts.
- Read blueprints and sketches.
- Daily clean-up of work site.
- Physical/Mental Involvement
- Lifting/carrying equipment up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints.
Environmental Factors
Exposure to fumes, odors, chemical, solvents, dust and gases that could cause problems with respiratory system; exposed to constantly moving machines and mechanical parts; may work in uncomfortable positions and postures inside the ship; exposed to high levels of noise.
Other requirements:
All positions require a pre-employment medical test. This employer participates in E-Verify. Must be able to qualify for SECNAV 5512 (DBIDS) security clearance. Ability to read technical English is a must. U.S. Citizenship is preferred (for some work locations it is required). Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
