What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Mill Set-up position at South Bay Solutions?
Summary
Responsible for but not limited to setting-up/operating assigned machinery. The Set-up machinist ensures that the machine runs smoothly, is maintained and user-friendly (instructions are clear and concise) for operators to understand. The essential role of a Set-up machinist is to set up production machines, following prints and specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Use drawings (blueprints), specs and instructions to set-up or operate CNC Machinery.
- Document processes pertaining to running and/or improvements made to set up or operate machines.
- Sustain a safe, efficient, and clean work environment.
- Responsible for the general maintenance and clean-up of the shop.
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems involving tooling, materials, programs, equipment, and part specifications.
- Identify and recommend changes to part specifications to improve machine ability.
- Perform other job-related duties.
Qualifications and Skills
- Must be able up to lift 50 lbs.
- Basic math, writing and computer skills.
- Must be able to set up/run multiple machines.
- Must be able to read prints e.g., able to interpret and translate engineering designs and documentation.
- Be able to inspect their own parts and be proficient with inspection tools.
Education / Experience
- Minimum 5 years of vertical mill setup experience (Preferably HAAS, or FANUC Controls), machining certification OR completion of a full apprenticeship program.
