Position Title: PK-5 Literacy Coordinator

Basic Function: Provides support and professional learning for teachers, intervention specialists, coaches and administrators on all matters related to the elementary English and language areas, as well as the content literacy and vocabulary associated with all other content areas. Facilitates the implementation of the Indiana Literacy Academic Standards and the integration of literacy across the content areas . Works collaboratively with the curriculum department team and other administrators with the implementation of best practice initiatives for the corporation. Keeps abreast of current research and initiatives for mathematics and participates in local, state, and national conferences and educational organizations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of effective instructional strategies for teaching reading and writing across all contents in Tier I and Tier II classroom instruction.
- Model, conduct small group instruction with students, deliver effective professional learning in order to meet the needs of student and adult learners.
- Possess a deep understanding of the Indiana Academic Standards at multiple grade levels, protocols for standards analysis and unpacking.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective formative and summative assessment measures.
- Collaborate with principal and district support to identify the professional learning needs of educators through effective data analysis, with an emphasis on defining goals at each grade level, and identifying the strategies that are most effective in achieving those goals. Alignment should be both vertical and horizontal with a detailed scope and sequence plan.
- Provide support and professional learning for teachers and instructional assistants related to the Pk-5 instruction with an emphasis on differentiated instruction.
- Develop, plan, lead, and evaluate professional learning, especially in areas of best instructional practices in English/language arts/writing/reading, experience with state standards and developing aligned curriculum.
- Coach, implement, and provide effective professional learning and support for district instructional models that foster students’ understanding of different modalities as readers and writers.
- Support teachers with the implementation of MTSS supports and practices.
9.. Collaborate with the digital integration specialist and principal to support the seamless integration of technology into classroom practice and student learning.
- Recommend and coordinate with the curriculum director in regard to the purchasing of instructional materials, equipment, and building of inclusive classroom libraries and book rooks within assigned programs.
- Oversee all district adoption processes and procedures related to assigned content areas.
- Perform other duties as directed by the director.
Qualifications: Incumbent must hold a valid certification in elementary education, secondary specific content area, reading specialist endorsement preferred. Possess strong planning, listening, organizational, supervisory, analytical, problem-solving, computer, accountability, multi-tasking, flexibility, resourcefulness, and oral and written communications skills. Incumbents must possess knowledge of the comprehensive organization, operations, policies and objectives of the assigned department or area.
Preferred Qualifications: A Master's Degree with a focus on literacy instruction, building level administrative license as well as certification in grades K-5.
