What are the responsibilities and job description for the Spanish Medical Interpreter position at South Boston Community Health Center?
Job Summary:
The interpreter facilitates all interpreting services and provides broad support to residents of South Boston whose primary language is other than English. The interpreter facilitates services through the translation of health center forms and signs to ensure appropriate sensitivity to cultural and language differences.
Qualifications:
Certified in Medical Interpreting. Fluency in both English and language used for interpretation, proficient background in medical terminology of the targeted language. This position requires familiarity with the patient population cultural and socio-economic background.
Job Duties:
- Provide accurate interpretation for patients, family, and staff during visits to the Center.
- Assist in registration, financial application process, and explanation of other center procedures. Schedules appointments as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient’s personal and medical information.
- Report to Director any problems, suggestions and concerns.
- Ability to maintain rapport with patients and medical staff.
- Act as a cultural broker and communicate patient’s social and cultural needs as they relate to the medical history. Comprehensive knowledge of referral network.
- Uses appropriate methods to communicate with providers regarding patient’s concerns, schedule, and cancellation.
- Verify patient’s appointments as needed. Makes referrals and notifies patient of appointment.
- Performs conference calls with simultaneous translations.
- Provides written translation of correspondence between provider and patient.
- Provides written translation of educational materials.
- Makes phone notes documentation in centricity on an as needed basis.
- Maintains appropriate continuing education on trends in medical interpretation.
- Assumes other duties as required.
