South Bronx United (SBU) is a youth development organization serving South Bronx youth through education, mentoring, and soccer programs. South Bronx United seeks a skilled youth development worker to join our team as a part-time Program Associate. This person will serve as an important part of the SBU Academy, a rigorous program with target outcomes for each grade level in academic skills, high school and college preparation, social-emotional learning, and competitive soccer.grades 6-12. The Academy program runs after-school and summer programming to provide essential academic support and enrichment to help students gain skills to excel in school and prepare for their future. The Program Associate supports all aspects of programming, supported by SBU’s full time staff. The core responsibilities include supporting the management of all operational aspects of programming, overseeing and supporting volunteer academic mentors, and implementing individual and group academic content.
SCOPE
The Academic Program Associate for 10th and 11th grade will be crucial in providing a supportive and enriching environment for our student-athletes. Here's a breakdown of responsibilities:

Pre-programming desk and room set up: assist in preparing the room for programming by ensuring it is organized and prepared for students.

Providing individualized support during homework time: Individual check-ins with students to review current academic standing through Google Classroom, school portals, and other platforms and establish priorities for the day’s session. Help students with their homework and track completion.

Assisting students with organization: During academic programming, work closely with students to help them organize their assignments and promote productivity so they can complete their work effectively.

Promoting positive behavior: Using proactive strategies, create a positive learning environment by encouraging positive student behavior. Engage in behavior management techniques to maintain a productive atmosphere if needed.

Facilitating lessons with assigned groups of students: all lesson materials shared in advance for preparation and collaboration with the High School Program Manager around curriculum development and implementation

Assisting with program clean-up: After each session concludes, you'll help with cleaning up the program area and returning materials to the designated storage space.

Walking students to practice: When necessary, accompany students from the Mott Haven Campus to Macombs Dam Park for their practice sessions.
This role is vital in ensuring that our student-athletes receive the support they need both academically and athletically. A friendly demeanor and willingness to go above and beyond will greatly contribute to creating a positive experience for everyone involved.
SCHEDULE
Programming Time: (approximately 12 hours weekly)

Monday, Wednesday: 4:30-7:30pm

Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 3:00-6:00pm
Administrative Time: (potentially up to 4 hours): To be determined with supervisor

COMPENSATION
$16-$22 per hour based on experience
