Job Title: Traffic Monitor Location:Assigned School Job Group:Non-Union Support Staff Pay Level:Non-Exempt, Pay Grade 10 Reports To: Building Principal Summary: Responsible for managing traffic flow and pedestrian safety during student arrival and departure times. Monitors bus and vehicle traffic lanes for proper flow and safety. Assists and/or directs pedestrians to safely navigate traffic. Reports concerns to administration. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned) Assess traffic flow and direct vehicles in order to provide all vehicles the ability to enter or exit district parking lots with minimal wait time. Provide traffic control and safety measures for pedestrians during peak transportation times. Directs traffic; implements and maintains student crossing procedures. Escorts students and other pedestrians across bus lanes, as necessary. Using the STOP paddle sign and or hand signals; manages the placement, movement of traffic. Uses traffic control devices (e.g., traffic cones) as needed. Reports traffic concerns, need for snow and ice removal, other safety hazards, or behavior incidents relating to students, staff, or visitors for follow up by appropriate personnel. Monitor, transmit and receive information over walkie-talkie to report emergencies or exchange information. Assist in investigating traffic accidents on campus. Perform related duties as assigned. General Responsibilities: Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the District's policies and procedures. Regular attendance in accordance with established scheduled days/hours. Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or general education degree (GED) plus one to two years of relevant work experience. Knowledge or experience with traffic control is desirable. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules and general driving regulations. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication and respond to questions from students and the general public. Math Skills: Ability to apply general math concepts. Reasoning Skills: Ability to identify problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals, in some instances under stressful, dangerous and/or emergency conditions. Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently. Demonstrated integrity. Physical ability to perform all job duties. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals, in some instances under stressful, dangerous and/or emergency situations. Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
