About the job

As a System Administrator at the South Carolina Aquarium, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the organization's IT infrastructure. Reporting directly to the IT Manager, you will assist in managing and maintaining critical systems that support daily operations, ensuring reliability, security, and efficiency. Your responsibilities will include supporting server environments, network infrastructure, and cybersecurity measures while also assisting in PC management and maintenance as needed.

This position requires a self-starter with the ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, to develop and maintain comprehensive IT documentation, ensuring continuity and efficiency in operations. Your role will also involve supporting end-users by addressing technical issues, implementing best practices, and providing training as necessary. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated professional who thrives in problem-solving scenarios, stays up to date with the latest technology trends, and is committed to maintaining a secure and robust IT environment that supports the mission of the South Carolina Aquarium.


Roles & Objectives:

  • Adhere to the South Carolina Aquarium policies
  • Maintain essential IT infrastructure, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, cloud services, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware
  • Take responsibility for projects and solutions within the larger business initiative
  • Handle business-critical IT systems that provide revenue generating operations
  • Work with internal and external partners to communicate and foster relationships for a wide variety of projects and services
  • Implement and maintaining cybersecurity measures, manage user access, and ensure the integrity of systems and data, while adhering to organizational security policies

Essential Duties:

  • End user technical support with troubleshooting to identify root cause analysis.
  • Troubleshooting and problem solve Aquarium Information Technology systems.
  • Perform server administration tasks (ex: user/group, security permissions, group policies, print services); research event-log warnings and errors; and monitor resources to ensure that systems architecture components work together seamlessly.
  • Maintain internal infrastructure, including laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, security updates, internet, intranet, LANs, WANs, Wi-Fi and network segments.
  • Perform backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection and disaster recovery.
  • Implement and maintain data & network security to protect systems from unauthorized access, viruses, and other security threats. Monitor security logs and conduct regular security audits.
  • Administration of the Active Directory, Azure AD and Office 365 environment.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, network diagrams, and troubleshooting procedures. Keep documentation up to date as systems evolve.
  • Maintain the virtualize infrastructure including the SAN network
  • Review and recommend hardware/software purchases and identify technological enhancements in partnership with the IT manager
  • Maintain and install software,hardware and security upgrades to all desktops, laptops, servers and devices.
  • Oversees the inventory of supplies and equipment necessary to maintain effective systems operations
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with software licensing requirements
  • Enforces Cyber Security standards and conventions to assure systems are maintained in accordance with the SCA requirements
  • Maintain a knowledge that is current with applicable technology
  • Oversees the Aquarium's telephone system maintenance and upgrading

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working flexible hours.
  • Running data cabling.
  • Supports the mission by participating in Aquarium programs and events.
  • Provides In-house staff training
  • Develop a good working relationship with SCA staff and Vendors
  • Provides excellent customer service
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Actively investigate ways for the aquarium to conserve resources through technology
  • Keep a clean, tidy and well managed area.
  • Rotating weekend on-call support.
  • Participation on the Ride-Out team may be required on short notice.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • 1-2 year's experience of Microsoft server administration.
  • 1-2 year's experience of data networking using VLAN's and a working knowledge of Meraki cloud switching
  • Problem solving skills on all levels of Windows Servers, PC hardware, printers, software and networking
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 1-2 year's experience with administrating Backup solutions and a working knowledge of Acronis backup
  • 1-2 year's experience with administrating Enterprise level Firewalls.
  • 1-2 year's experience with administrating SAN networks.
  • In depth knowledge of Cyber security best practices
  • 1-2 years administrating Hyper V Virtual environments
  • 1-2 year's experience in Wi-Fi networking and a working knowledge of Meraki Wi-Fi cloud networking
  • 1-2 year's experience in Office 365 administration

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the computer field.

The Aquarium is an "at-will" employer, and as such, employment with the Aquarium is not for a fixed term, or definite period and may be terminated at the will of either party, with or without cause, and without prior notice.

Salary : $42,000 - $46,000
