Job Responsibilities
Center Coastal Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Summerville, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, this position provides daily nursing care, training, activities, and treatment to the people who live at the Regional Centers in accordance with all licensing and certification requirements, the South Carolina Nursing Practice Act, and South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs Policies and Procedures.
Successful completion of a registered nursing education program for professional nursing or an equivalent course of study from a registered nursing education program per Section 40-33-32 of the South Carolina Nurse Licensure Act. Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina May require basic life support skills including PR, AED use, and ventilations. Some positions may require possession of a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of practical nursing procedures. Knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, basic health and safety practices. Knowledge of the human anatomy. Ability to maintain attention to detail. Ability to make accurate technical and physical observations of patients. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain accurate medical documentation. Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations and laws. Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of socioeconomic, racial, ethnic and educational backgrounds. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the healthcare team. Ability to lift and move patients.

About Our Agency: The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) is the state agency that plans, develops, coordinates, and funds services for South Carolinians with the severe, lifelong disabilities of intellectual disability and related disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and similar disability.

- Shift Differential Hourly Rates: Monday – Friday 2nd and 3rd shift = $0.75, Saturday – Sunday 1st shift = $3.00, Saturday – Sunday 2nd and 3rd shift = $3.75***

- Administers routine oral, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medications as well as treatments in accordance with nursing
- Monitors health conditions of the individuals and reports findings to medical provider and appropriate staff. Assists physician/practitioner with examinations and treatments as needed.
- Maintains a safe and sanitary living and working environment.
- Ensures accountability and protection from harm for all individuals through appropriate and thorough documentation.
- Reviews Monthly Medication Administration Record (MAR) and 90-day recertification orders, completes healthcare records, AIMS/DISCUS, swallowing and SAOM Evaluations. Assists with weights and heights as ordered and indicated by policy and procedures. Properly documents as needed.
- Performs and participates in activities as otherwise assigned by the supervisor to include, but not limited to, participation in on-call rotation procedure.
