Job Responsibilities

Whitten Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Clinton, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Job Responsibilities:

The purpose of this position is to assist with the delivery of speech therapy and dining programs under the direct guidance of the Occupational Therapist and Speech Pathologist.

  • Assists the Speech Pathologist with the delivery of speech services.
  • Assists the Occupational Therapist with dining programs and adaptive equipment to provide for the needs of the consumers.
  • Assists in transferring adaptive equipment and training staff when consumers are transferred to Special Care Unit (SCU) or are moved to a new unit.
  • Assists therapists with scheduling and conducting evaluations and hearing screenings as needed. Assists therapist with treatments when needed.
  • Completes monthly reports and schedules.
  • Assists with office/secretarial needs.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

The employee should possess a high school diploma or its equivalent. Knowledge/experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is beneficial.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the procedures, equipment and techniques used in the position. Knowledge of the federal and state laws regulating procedures, materials and supplies used in the position. Skill in operating and maintaining various kinds of equipment (physical therapy equipment, adaptive and/or mobility equipment, etc.). Ability to read, write and follow detailed written and oral instructions. Ability to control the distribution of supplies, materials, and equipment and maintain inventory records. The employee should have the ability to maintain appropriate attitude and conduct necessary to the welfare of patients; maintain records and communicate effectively; and communicate effectively as well as be able to explain basic instructions related to communication programs after this employee has been trained on the program. The employee also must have computer skills and be able to maintain Excel spreadsheets.

Immunization: If this position requires the applicant to work directly with DDSN consumers, a (2) step PPD testing or QuantiFERON TB Gold testing must be completed prior to beginning employment. All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DDSN employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
