Job Responsibilities
Whitten Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Clinton, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Provides specialized and complex treatments to consumers with acute and chronic respiratory problems at a DDSN Regional Center.
Certification as a Respiratory Therapy Technician with experience in respiratory therapy; or graduation from an American Medical Association-approved program for respiratory therapists with experience in respiratory therapy; or designation as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with the National Board for Respiratory Therapy.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of respiratory therapy techniques and procedures. Knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology, and the nature of respiratory diseases and of the various medications used in respiratory therapy. Skill in the operation and maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment. Ability to teach respiratory therapy procedures to patients, families, technicians, and auxiliary health care personnel. Ability to provide specialized and complex treatment to individuals with acute and chronic respiratory problems. Ability to maintain accurate records and accountability. Demonstrates good communication skills both verbally and in writing. Ability to provides required care as indicated in Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) and Department of Public Health (DPH) policies and procedures.

- Administers repository therapy treatments to include nebulizers, aerosols and inhalers as prescribed.
- Evaluates effects of respiratory therapy treatment plan by observing, noting and evaluating consumer's progress, recommending adjustments and modifications to provider.
- Ensures that appropriate respiratory treatments are documented in the consumers Individual Program Plan (IPP).
- Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, troubleshooting and requesting repairs.
- Responsible for the proper function and upkeep of oxygen tanks and supplies in conjunction with the Supply Manager.
- Attends appropriate Continuing Education courses in order to maintain professional associations and technical knowledge.
