Job Description
Are you an expert in accounting or finance with experience in modern enterprise accounting applications? Would you like to make a positive impact on South Carolina’s workforce? Join our team at DEW!
Our Accounting Supervisor serves within the DEW Finance Department. Finance is responsible for the agency’s annual financial reporting which consists of the audited financial statements for the UI trust fund and the agency wide audited financial statements. Agency bookkeeping and grant reporting to the US Department of Labor (DOL) and other grantors is performed by the finance department.
This role performs accounting analysis for grants and funds. The Accounting Supervisor also monitors and verifies less complex financial data and transactions, reconciles complex general ledger accounts, and prepares journal entries resulting from account analysis. This position prepares and verifies routine and ad hoc financial reporting, statements, and reporting for varying stakeholders in accordance with agency financial controls and reporting procedures.
The ideal candidate should have expertise in accounting, budgeting, financial management, state government fiscal accounting, financial ERP systems, financial statement analysis, and the ability to interpret complex financial data and reports. Proficiency in recording and researching transactions in the South Carolina Enterprise Information System (SCEIS) is essential.

Minimum And Additional Requirements
Education and Experience
A bachelors degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field and minimum of three (3) years of professional experience directly related, such as accounting, cost, auditing, or finance; thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; strong knowledge of cost accounting and cost allocations; ability to analyze and interpret financial statements; ability to interpret and analyze complex accounting data, records, and reports.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficient in financial reporting tools as well as SCEIS and Microsoft Excel.

Key Responsibilities
- Record and research transactions in SCEIS and related systems.
- Create and enter journal entries, generate transaction reports, and extract data.
- Perform reconciliations for grant programs, unemployment tax and benefit systems, capital asset records, and other external data.
- Collaborate with the Finance department team members, agency program staff, and external customers for transaction processing and reporting.
- Ensure accurate preparation, checks, and posting of all SCEIS transactions and batches.
- Review SCEIS periodically to adjust for grant and cost center coding errors.
- Direct the activities and ensure the proper execution of all responsibilities of the accounting section of the Agency and Other funds in the Finance Department.
- To assist the Controller as needed with preparing internal and external financial reports, federal and state filings for the Agency and Other funds.
