Job Responsibilities
With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.
This community-based position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Mobile Crisis Response Initiative (MCRI), at the Anderson-Oconee-Pickens Mental Health Center, 1 Linwa Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.
The overall purpose of this position is to assure timely access to outpatient mental health services for patients and to divert future hospitalizations during mental health crisis. Will provide assessments for patients being discharged from local hospitals, consultation, crisis intervention, and short-term case management services. Will also respond to emergency assessments conducting face to face consultations as needed, arriving on-site no later than 60 minutes after the receipt of call. Will also provide on-call backup coverage for the Anderson-Oconee-Pickens catchment area. Must maintain valid driver's license.
This position will be assigned to a regional location and cover a multi-county area.
This position will require frequent travel in the assigned region, occasional in-state travel and minimal overnight travel.
Must have the ability to respond to on-site location of crisis no later than 60 minutes after the receipt of call.
Must be ability participate in back-up on call rotation on evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 a.m., 24 hours on holidays, weekends and center closing due to inclement weather.
Must possess valid driver's license.
Must have ability to become SC Notary.
Day To Day Duties
Agency Requirement: A master’s degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.
Center Preferred Experience: Work experience in dealing with mental health population in crisis and skills in de-escalation.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Day To Day Duties
- Primary job duty is to be mobile and capable to respond to crisis calls involving individuals who are out in the community as appropriate in under 60 minutes- via telephone, on scene, etc. (NOT individuals who are incarcerated, currently at a center/clinic)
- Follow On-Scene Protocol for mobile response with Law Enforcement and second clinician when appropriate to assess, refer, and formulate disposition to facilitate transfer or develop safety plan.
- Answer incoming information calls and provide education and guidance to callers in order to assist them with navigating the mental health system.
- Ensure Paperwork- including documentation, Detention Orders, patient contact log, etc. - are correct, accessible, and up to date.
- Case Management of Mobile Crisis Response Initiative (MCRI) Active Patients
- Follow-up with individuals in patient log who MCRI made contact with the day prior to ensure they have followed through with safety plan. Make contact with agencies to which the individual was referred.
- Provide information for additional resources individual may need- housing, medical, etc.
- Network with two community partners and providers a week in order to provide information on the service MCRI can provide, verify agency/partner contact information and services they provide, collect information for future referral purposes, etc.
- Assist Center/Clinics with treatment disposition as follows:
- Family members who walk in seeking commitment on a family member who is NOT with them at the center and REFUSES to come to the center, may be referred to MCRI clinicians to assess the case and offer MCRI services.
- For individuals located at the Center who are deemed to need commitment by MHC staff, MCRI clinicians may work with Center staff to facilitate direct transfer to a behavioral health bed, avoiding Emergency Department, when possible.
