Job Responsibilities
The mountain spring-fed Lake Jocassee encompassed by the Jocassee Gorges, waterfalls accessible only by boat and some of the best South Carolina trout fishing are all part of the allure of Devils Fork State Park.
The land around 7,565-acre Lake Jocassee remains mostly undeveloped and the only public access point to the lake is through Devils Fork. Four mountain streams and several waterfalls feed into the lake, making it cooler than others and a great South Carolina trout fishing spot. Plus, the unusually clear water of Lake Jocassee is a haven for scuba divers and swimmers. During the spring months, hikers on the Oconee Bell Nature Trail are treated to sightings of the endangered Oconee bell wildflower.
Job Purpose And Duties
Performs duties necessary for maintenance and upkeep of state parks to include repair and construction of facilities, operation and repair of motorized equipment, groundskeeping and landscaping activities. Assist with the administration and the operation of a state park; assist park visitors.
High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year general maintenance experience.

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.

Job Purpose And Duties
Performs duties necessary for maintenance and upkeep of state parks to include repair and construction of facilities, operation and repair of motorized equipment, groundskeeping and landscaping activities. Assist with the administration and the operation of a state park; assist park visitors.
- Performs miscellaneous repairs and park improvements, to include carpentry, masonry, electrical, plumbing, landscaping and grounds keeping.
- Assists with the vehicle trip log for maintenance vehicle, clean shop weekly, keeping the maintenance vehicles washed and clean out and calling commercial vender repair program when vehicle need repair.
- Repairs and maintains motorized equipment. Performs preventative maintenance on facilities, equipment, and related infrastructure. Keep detailed maintenance records.
- Assists in the tasks/duties of A-II seasonal help. Ensures that daily job assignments are being met and completed in a timely manner.
- Performs and directs clean-up and housekeeping activities to assure the attractiveness, cleanliness and safety of park grounds and facilities also looking for hazards trees to be cut before they become a issue.
- Responsible for calling and getting the trash compactor emptied and the maintenance and repairs on the trash buggies.
- Practice and promote teamwork within the park and/or region, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
- Assists the Maintenance manger in overseeing CNST projects and task.
High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year general maintenance experience.
Additional Requirements
- Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking, and standing on uneven terrain, crawling, and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents, and other materials and substances used in maintaining park facilities and grounds.
- Ability to read, understand and formulate written procedures and directions; ability to perform intermediate arithmetic computation. Ability to proficiently operate a variety of power tools and motorized equipment.
- Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License.
