Job Responsibilities
Set along the South Edisto River, Aiken State Park is a haven for fishing, canoeing and kayaking. A scenic 1.7-mile canoe and kayak trail winds its way down the south fork of the Edisto River, attracting paddlers from across the region.
Aiken State Park has a history as notable as its natural beauty. During the Great Depression, the park was built by two Civilian Conservation Corps companies, one of which was an African-American detachment of the C.C.C. Their work has withstood the test of time and can still be seen in some of the remaining structures and interpretive signage.
Job Purpose And Duties
Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher-level employees.
Associate degree in Park Management or related field with one (1) year of park ranger experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.

- Assists with park administrative duties in accordance with Department guidelines and procedures and planning of long and short-term goals.
- Collect and account for revenue and produce required reports.
- Instruct, supervise and perform routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings and equipment to meet established standards. Maintains a safe work environment.
- Interprets the cultural and natural resources of the State Park Service to park visitors.
- Continue professional development through relevant readings, podcasts, courses, etc. Practice and promote teamwork within Aiken State Park, throughout the agency and with external stakeholders. Represents park as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
- Assists in control of inventories of equipment, supplies and retail items by issue, use and counts; completes data reports. Provides a variety of office functions related to callers, correspondence, reservations, and revenue collection. Work to accomplish the mission of the Park Service through the core values of Stewardship and Service. Effectively deliver quality customer service and address visitor concerns in a timely manner. Work to ensure that visitors leave with a positive experience and a desire to return.
- Employee will be required to live in designated park housing to provide for security, safety and emergency response.

- Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking, and standing on uneven terrain, crawling, and walking at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays. Position requires residency in agency provided housing.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License.
