Job Responsibilities
Stretched along the Catawba River on the South Carolina fall line, Landsford Canal State Park is home to the well-preserved remains of the canal system that made the river commercially navigable from 1820 to 1835. The Catawba River is home to the largest known stand of the rocky shoals spider lily, a flower species found predominantly in the Southeast. Peak bloom season for the rocky shoals spider lily is during May and June.
Job Purpose And Duties
Under general supervision, assist with the overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Perform a wide range of duties in accordance with departmental policies, standard operating procedures, and general instructions. In the absence of senior management, assume the responsibilities of the Park Manager, ensuring the continued smooth operation of the park. Duties include overseeing daily operations, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and accessibility of park facilities. Additionally, provide leadership to staff and volunteers, support visitor services, and contribute to the development of educational and recreational programs, all while maintaining compliance with state regulations and organizational goals.
Associate degree in Park Management or related field with one (1) year of ranger experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.

- Assists with park administrative duties in accordance with Department policy and procedures and planning of long- and short-term goals.
- Collects revenue, accounts for revenue, and produces required revenue reports.
- Instructs, supervises, and performs routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings, and equipment to meet established standards.
- Interprets the cultural and natural resources of Landsford Canal State Park and the South Carolina state park system for visitors.
- Employee will be required to live in designated park housing to provide for security, safety and emergency response.
- Practices and promotes teamwork within the work unit/office, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
- Coordinates specific operations in public use areas and facilities.
- Assists in control of inventories of equipment, supplies, and retail items by issue, use, and counts.

Additional Requirements
- Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other materials used in maintaining park facilities and grounds.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must possess a valid S.C. driver’s license.
