Job Responsibilities
Serves as Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer and assists the Resident Maintenance Engineer with organizing, planning, and coordinating the activities of employees of a county maintenance unit. Ensures that the unit is operating effectively and efficiently during normal and emergency operations. Manages the maintenance contract process. Work includes preparing quantities, inspecting contract work, and processing payments for contracts such as routine mowing, brush management, herbicide operations, concrete repair, and any other contract work performed. Assists Resident Maintenance Engineer with the creation and implementation of the county Business Plan. Supervises the coordination of maintenance plans to ensure the business goals of the unit are met. Responsible for personnel matters including Employee Performance Management System (EPMS) reviews, position description generation and updates, disciplinary actions, and various other personnel procedures. Supervises the encroachment permit process and various inspection activities, meeting engineering directives for all roads in the county. Assists Resident Maintenance Engineer in researching data and providing technical assistance in preparing reports for budgets, resurfacing, and other short and long-term programs. Assists Resident Maintenance Engineer in investigating public complaints, work requests, and damage claims. Recommends corrective action and ensures completion. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle's license is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
