Job Responsibilities
Operates medium duty equipment including a tandem dump truck for pulling a trailer and hauling materials such as asphalt, dirt, limestone, etc., to and from job sites. Operates medium duty equipment including a belt loader, large roller > 4 tons, in conjunction with highway and bridge maintenance operations. Performs skilled manual labor and operates small equipment such as asphalt kettle, standard dump truck, roller, brine sprayer, forklift, snow plow, tractor with mower, brush chipper, spreader, concrete mixer, trailer mounted pipe washer, and self-contained sweeper, powered tools, and hand tools to perform a variety of maintenance activities associated with the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system. Assists with the placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone. Serves as a flagger to safely direct and control traffic in maintenance work zones. Assists in on-call repairs, emergency and inclement weather operations, may include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work hours outside the normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental related emergencies.
