Job Responsibilities
Performs quality assurance reviews of SCDOT and Consultant prepared structural plans to ensure conformance with department's policies and procedures. Performs quality control reviews of structural designs and drawings for complex transportation structures. Performs analysis, design, and/or review of earth retaining structures and box culverts. Reviews responses by designers to the quality assurance and quality control comments and provides their status. Performs design of reinforced concrete structural components, structural steel components, and pre-stressed concrete structural components for geometrically complex transportation structures. Performs seismic analysis, design, and/or review for geometrically complex bridges for SDC's A through D. Performs reviews of structural elements for encroachment permits. Performs review of shop plans, working drawings, and other submittals. Prepares structural drawings and details utilizing CADD system. Assists with research for and preparation of relevant sections of department manuals and details. Assists in the evaluation and implementation of new software, technology, and other design aids. Assists Structural Support Quality Assurance Engineer by attending meetings and site visits, and providing customer support in the absence of the Quality Assurance Engineer. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and two (2) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
