Job Responsibilities
At Sumter Construction, performs moderately complex inspection work in certified areas of asphalt placement on road projects. Monitors placement rates, temperatures, rolling procedures, and traffic control operation to SCDOT plans and specifications. Makes moderately complex interpretations of specification and plans. Performs moderately complex inspection work in certified areas of earthwork operations on road and bridge projects. Oversees placement of drainage pipe catch basins, embankment, borrow soils and cement reclamation. Performs density testing on soils and aggregates, and base materials to ensure adherence to SCDOT plans and specifications. Makes moderately complex interpretations of specifications and plans. Performs moderately complex inspection work in certified areas of concrete placement on road and bridge projects. Duties include performing pre-pour check lists and inspections, monitoring concrete placement, and performing all required field tests to include checking slump and sir content of concrete as well as making test cylinders and obtaining necessary samples of materials ensuring compliance with SCDOT plans and specifications. Makes moderately complex interpretations of specifications and plans. Performs moderately complex inspection work in certified areaas of foundations installation on bridge contracts. Duties include monitoring the installation if driven piles, drilled shafts, and drilled piles, recording inspection forms as required, and performs or monitor any field testing. Ensuring all foundations are installed in compliance with SCDOT plans and specifications. Makes moderately complex interpretations of specifications and plans. Prepares all necessary construction reports including wage interviews and Site Manager Daily Work Reports, enters sampling data into AASHTO-WARE and Sample Log and uses other required computer software programs as necessary. Maintains these records until the completion of each assigned project. Assists in preparing final construction plans. Performs traffic control and erosion control inspections at the required frequency to ensure compliance with SCDOT specifications. Prepares and submits reports to the Resident Construction Engineer (RCE) and contractors. Inspects contractor's work in correcting note deficiencies. Verifies contractor's stake out work.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
