Job Responsibilities
Conducts field sampling and testing of work performed during internal full-depth reclamation projects by in-house district crews. Monitors operations to ensure that work performed is compliance with SCDOT Maintenance Directive 6 and with all other departmental policies, standards and procedures. Performs general inspection duties on internal reclamation projects and other maintenance operations in accordance Section 306 (Cement Modified Recycled Base) of the SCDOT Standard Specifications for Highway Construction and Section 300 of the South Carolina Construction Manual as a certified Earthwork and Base Course Tec hnician. Performs general inspection duties of maintenance operations as a CEPSI inspector for compliance involving erosion prevention and sediment control measures, and other environmental factors.
Assists unit super visor in gathering and compiling data related to project quantities, daily reports and units costs associated with work performed by unit crews. Implements and updates a road rating database for archiving past projects and selecting future project activities. Revie ws Highway Maintenance Management System (HMMS) and Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS) records and data for completeness and accuracy. Review data for activity accomplishments goals, maintenance cost distributions, outstanding work and roadway cost summaries. Responsible for accurate and timely submittal of reports for supervisor’s review and submission .
Assists in the training of maintenance crews and employees in safety practices such as flagging operations, wearing of safety equipment, vehicle safety, and job site hazards. Inspects work zone safety set-ups routinely, ensures crews comply with all safety and environmental regulations, and maintains material stockpiles and inventories. Reviews Job Hazard Analysis Sheets for accuracy. Performs periodic sa fety inspection of unit assigned vehicles and equipment and instructs unit employees on proper vehicle and equipment pre-t rip requirements. Assists in emergency or inclement weather operations. May include being available for extended hours or extended shift operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position requires driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise. Position will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays during emergency or inclement weather situations with occasional overnight travel outside of county. Exposed to dust, cement, grass, and poisonous leaf plants.
A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
