Job Responsibilities
Performs vehicle preventative maintenance service on state equipment. Checks fuel, water, and lubricating oil levels to ensure that all engines and equipment are properly serviced. Assists mechanics performing vehicle repairs on state maintenance and construction equipment. Performs light brake repairs and troubleshoots electrical problems. Enters data into job sheet logs for repairs, supplies used, fuel consumption, and equipment usage hours. Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations; may include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts during the day or night. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
Six (6) months of work experience that is directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulate objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material grasping. This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
