Position Overview As a Pediatric Nurse at Palmetto Pediatrics, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality care to our young patients. You will work closely with pediatricians, other healthcare professionals, and families to ensure the well-being of children.
Key Responsibilities: Responsible for wearing a name tag every day. Responsible for greeting parents/patients with a smile. Responsible for understanding HIPAA and completing a HIPAA training packet annually. Responsible for understanding OSHA regulations and participating in OSHA training annually. Responsible for understanding CLIA. Responsible for understanding the EMR to include being able to type, use a mouse and navigate through windows within the EMR. Responsible for identifying themselves and the patient when entering a patient’s exam room. Responsible for marking Doctor or MA ready once orders are complete Responsible for giving immunizations as ordered by the physicians and properly administer IM, SQ, intranasal and transdermal as indicated by team leader or team leader assigned training. Responsible for reviewing the immunization questionnaire prior to administering vaccines to patients. Responsible for reviewing the VFC form prior to patient receiving vaccines. Responsible for billing VFC correctly to include no charging the vaccines and billing correct VFC codes. Responsible for administering non-narcotic medications as instructed by the physician. Responsible for preparing a pulse ox as instructed by the physician. Responsible for removing staples or sutures as instructed by the physician. Responsible for performing sterile bladder catheterizations as instructed by the physician. Responsible for giving patients oxygen as instructed by the physician. Responsible for assisting the physician with dressing or wound care. Responsible for returning incoming parent/patient calls concerning a sick child within 4 hours of receiving call in the organizer and documenting conversation. Responsible for taking parent/patient returned calls when parent calls the office back. Responsible for verifying a caller is the parent/guardian or an individual listed on the HIPAA form. Responsible for placing outgoing calls to parents/patients as directed by the physician prior to leaving each day. Responsible for triaging walk in patients. Responsible for sending messages regarding medical advice to the Triage Nurse. Responsible for completing ADD/ADHD medication telephone follow ups every three months for patients taking controlled substances for ADD/ADHD symptom management to ensure compliance and lack of adverse side effects. Responsible for changing name when applicable and signing off on all completed medical calls. Responsible for calling in or sending via eRX and documenting medications as directed by the physician. Responsible for following up based on appropriate location when an eRX medication has an error message. Responsible for distributing medication samples to patients as instructed by the physician and documenting the patient’s name, proper dose, and medication instructions on the sample. Responsible for assisting and/or performing the daily required controls. Must be knowledgeable in proper documentation and mixing of controls. Responsible for completing and properly documenting the controls for urinalysis strips, strep tests, glucose elite, urine pregnancy and influenza tests. Responsible for obtaining specimens/performing tests requiring capillary sticks to include but not limited to CBC, Hgb, Cholesterol, Newborn Screen, Glucose, Bili. Responsible for obtaining specimens and perform tests on rapid strep, urinalysis, hemoccult, influenza, monospot, and urine pregnancy. Responsible for verifying lot numbers have been controlled prior to using an unopened box of tests strips. If the lot numbers are different, controls the test strips prior to running the test. Responsible for notifying the team leader or their designee when supplies are running low; before the last one – two boxes are utilized. Responsible for assisting with checking in vaccines shipments, verifying its contents against the packing slip, initialing/dating the slip and then giving it to the team leader. Responsible for documenting the date, time, initials, and title for tests that were performed in Orders. Responsible for signing off on all normal lab results prior to moving to the next task. Responsible for creating e-requisitions for LabCorp labs. Responsible for completing proper paperwork and lab labels for other outside lab vendors. Responsible for documenting the date the specimen was obtained and sent to the outside lab and for documenting the date the specimen final results are received in the lab log. Responsible for verifying that lab results received from an e-requisitioned lab are in the EMR before shredding result. Responsible for giving lab results that were not created from an e-requisition to the physician for review or to Medical Records for scanning after documenting the date the result was received. Responsible for instructing parents on collection of urine and stool to be sent out to lab. Must have knowledge of the required materials to collect the specimen as well as how to correctly store the specimen. Responsible for informing parents of all normal and required abnormal lab results. Responsible for performing and documenting vision and hearing screens. Responsible for accurately completing a shot record within 48 hours of the initial parent call and demonstrates an understanding of how to create an immunization record in PCC. Responsible for reviewing weight checks performed by a trained nurse assistant, a trained medical assistant I or II. When a trained nurse assistant, trained medical assistant I or II are not available performs the weight check and consults and MD if the desired results outlined in the Medical Record have not been met. Responsible for performing Nebulizer treatments. Responsible for completing Asthma education with asthmatic patients to include MDI use, peak flow meter use, triggers, and completing an Asthma Action plan. Responsible for completing nurse team leader or assignee trained venipuncture. Responsible for accurately performing call reports in the EHR and sending the message to the appropriate personnel for review. Responsible for getting the narcotics during emergency situations and verifying that the NA’s and MA’s have brought their assigned emergency equipment. Responsible in assisting the physician in stabilizing patients during emergency situations and assigning a staff member to call 911 if patient cannot be stabilized. Responsible for utilizing the internet for work related purposes only. This position is non-exempt. Non-Essential Job Function: Responsible for calling the hospital to admit a patient as directed by the physician. Responsible for completing Camp and Sports physical forms within 48 hours of receiving the document and then giving it to the primary physician for review. Responsible for faxing WIC and other prior authorization forms that are required by the insurance within 24 hours of request.
Qualifications: Active LPN or RN in the state of South Carolina board.
