Position SummaryMaintains patient records on unit. Performs and coordinates the clerical and public relations functions for the unit, as well as coordinating patient services and tests provided by the other ancillary hospital departments; acts as unit receptionist receiving and directing visitors. Works collaboratively with the health care team, is customer focused and strives to meet unit and hospital goals. Provides quality work according to established practice standards and guidelines for the area(s) assigned. Must be willing/able to float to other (comparable) nursing units, as requested/needed. Completes in a timely manner all Birth Certificate/Death Certificate and Paternity Acknowledgement records according to South Carolina Vital Records policies and procedures.

• High school graduate or equivalent.• Some college or vocational training preferred.• Must possess skills for the ability to make independent, responsible decisions upholding policy and procedure; must have concern for detail and be able to work quickly and accurately. • Individual must maintain a pleasant and tactful manner when working with people in stressful situations and be able to solve problems and deal with conflict; must have the ability to interpret a variety of handwritten data.• Must protect confidential information, records, and reports.• Must be able to perform duties accurately under stress. • Must be able to work irregular schedules, weekends, and holidays due to staffing and census fluctuations.• Obtains Notary Public upon hire and maintains Notary Public status.
Minimum Experience: Basic computer and typing skills required. Previous hospital experience or secretary training within the medical field preferred.
