Summary:
East Cooper Bariatrics and General Surgery is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our team. In this role, you will support our physicians and healthcare providers in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals undergoing surgical evaluations and weight loss treatments. You’ll assist with pre- and post-operative care, coordinate appointments, and educate patients throughout their treatment journey. This position offers a dynamic clinical environment with a focus on teamwork, efficiency, and excellence in surgical and bariatric care.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment & Prep:
Greet and prepare patients for exams and procedures related to general surgery and bariatrics.
Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and current medications.
Clinical Support:
Assist providers during physical exams, in-office procedures, minor wound care, and post-op visits.
Ensure surgical rooms and supplies are sterile, organized, and properly stocked.
Patient Education:
Provide patients with instructions related to surgery prep, weight loss plans, medication, and post-operative care.
Answer questions and offer support to patients navigating lifestyle changes associated with bariatric surgery.
Care Coordination:
Schedule surgical consultations, pre-op testing, follow-up visits, and referrals as directed.
Coordinate with surgical scheduling teams and outside providers to streamline patient care.
Documentation:
Accurately document patient interactions, provider notes, and treatment plans in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Education & Experience:
Required: High school diploma or GED and completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program.
Experience: Minimum of one year working in a physician’s office or surgical practice preferred; experience in bariatrics is a plus.
Certifications:
Required: Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential and active CPR certification.
