Job Title: Physician Assistant – The Hand Institute

General Summary:
The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide comprehensive care to patients at The Hand Institute, specializing in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of hand and upper extremity conditions. The PA will work closely with the healthcare team, including surgeons, to assist in surgical procedures, provide post-operative care, and manage a variety of conditions affecting the hand and upper extremities. This position requires experience as a 1st assist in surgical procedures.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Support the organization's mission, philosophy, and objectives while adhering to policies and procedures.
Maintain HIPAA compliance and uphold confidentiality in all patient interactions.
Assist surgeons during various hand and upper extremity surgeries, including but not limited to tendon repair, fracture fixation, and arthroscopy.
Conduct pre-operative assessments, including patient histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic testing.
Provide post-operative care, including monitoring recovery, managing complications, and educating patients on wound care and rehabilitation.
Work collaboratively with the surgical team to ensure high-quality patient outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with hand and upper extremity conditions.
Educate patients on preventative care, surgical options, and rehabilitation strategies to promote optimal recovery and function.
Manage patient records and document all care in compliance with medical and legal standards.
Perform routine procedures as required by the scope of practice, including casting, splinting, and assisting in minor surgical procedures.
Address patient concerns and provide compassionate, professional care in a supportive and responsive environment.
Stay up-to-date with current research, best practices, and advancements in hand and upper extremity surgery.
Perform other duties as assigned to meet patient care needs.
Education and Certification:
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Current, active licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of South Carolina.
Certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) by the NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants).
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Physician Assistant in a surgical or orthopedic setting, with demonstrated experience in assisting in surgeries.
Experience as a 1st assist in orthopedic hand or upper extremity surgeries strongly preferred.
Ability to independently manage post-operative care and follow-up for patients with hand and upper extremity conditions.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
