What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hospital Coder- DRG position at South Central Health System?
General Function:
- Assigning ICD-10-CM & ICD-10-PCS diagnosis and procedure codes with CPT codes and modifiers where applicable to the records of discharged patients.
- Expediting coding of these records as accurately and efficiently as possible to achieve maximum accounts receivable.
- Assigning Present on Admission indicators is also necessary to ensure the most accurate DRG is captured.
- Inpatient coding steers reimbursement and the case mix for the facility.
- Accuracy and competence is an essential part of coding to ensure appropriate code assignments.
- Ongoing team participation and continual learning of coding skills is necessary to provide SCRMC with quality coding.
Job Duties:
- Assign appropriate code for all records (Inpatient and Outpatient) to include all financial classes utilizing ICD-10-CM & ICD-10-PCS and CPT systems with compliance of Medicare, Medicaid, and standard coding guidelines
- Correspondence with physicians regarding coding/documentation issues
- Knowledge of DNFB - ability to retrieve and code as deemed necessary
- Assist in training new personnel
- Assist Utilization Review, Admissions and Patient Accounts staff as necessary
- Enhance professional growth and development through education programs as offered
- General office knowledge to help in all areas of the department as may be necessary
