Social Stars Learning Center is a Preschool program designed for children ages 3 to 6 who are exhibiting signs of needing early emotional or social supports. We are a program developed to function within a preschool classroom setting, focusing on assisting students with their emotional, social, and/or behavioral needs. Our program's goal is improving chances of future academic success, as well as improving skills needed to succeed in the home and community settings. A preschool teacher must have a great love and patience for children. The goal is to contribute to the healthy mental and emotional development of the child so they can successfully acclimate in the next level of education.
Responsibilities:
•Develop continuous supportive relationships with identified clients and their families;
•Assist with targeted case management duties as needed;
•Be in contact with designated clients and families for regularly scheduled appointments during the hours of 7 am to 4 pm to meet the client and family’s needs as dictated on their plan of care;
•Maintain direct client and family contacts in their natural environment based on needs;
•Help clients learn more effective controls to manage their mental health diagnosis;
•Follow the instructions of the clinical supervisor regarding effective intervention strategies.
•Report to team leader and client’s therapist any and all concerns regarding clients change in behavior or reportable issues.
•Update client’s goals, objectives, and services in the treatment plan, if needed, and follow-up with the therapist for their clinical oversight.
•Facilitate client autonomy by helping them build on strengths, increase community integration and learn more effective controls for emotional disturbances based on medical necessity;
•Build a relationship with community agencies that will provide a natural, supportive network for clients in their quest for mastery in various situations; liaison
•Assume an advocacy role for clients and their families;
•When necessary or possible, help integrate clients into existing emergency service systems;
•Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
•Must pass a TB skin test and have a health assessment.
•Develop a careful and creative program suitable for preschool children
•Organize nap and snack hours and supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times
•Track children’s progress and report to parents
•Communicate with parents regularly to understand the children’s background and psyche
•Collaborate with other treatment team members
•Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have at least a BA/BS degree or be equivalently qualified by work experience or a combination of work experience in the human services field and education, with one year of experience substitution for one year of education.
- Possess demonstrated interpersonal skills, ability to work with persons with serious emotional disturbances, and the ability to react effectively in a wide variety of human services situations.
- Pass a criminal background and driver’s license check to the satisfaction of SCMH.
