General Description:
This role is a supportive position to the teacher/teaching staff in a Head Start classroom. Responsibilities include assisting with daily activities, meal preparation and clean up, monitoring children on the playground, and accompanying teachers and children on field trips.
Nutrition:
As a cook/custodian, responsibilities include preparing breakfast, lunch and snacks for the Head Start center, maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen and overall cleanliness of the Head Start center. Alternatively, as an additional cook/custodian, assist and cooperate in nutrition activities for a Head Start center, including meal planning and preparation, maintenance of food service areas, and providing meals and snacks to children.
Transportation:
This role involves assisting with safe and punctual transportation to and from classroom sites, observing and monitoring behavior of children, interacting with parents and staff, and promoting the well-being of children. The role also includes understanding the responsibility of being a mandated reporter for Child Abuse and Neglect, reading and understanding the Child Abuse and Neglect reporting policy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assigned duties by site supervisor, relevant to component area. Includes carrying out developmentally appropriate activities for a Head Start classroom, assisting with meal preparation and clean up, and monitoring children on the playground.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Read Orientation Manual for each component area. Agree to Standards of Conduct and sign Conduct Agreement. Sign Confidentiality Statement. Obtain initial medical exam and TB assessment within 30 days of employment, complete medical exam and TB assessment every five years following initial employment. Pass background screen, child abuse/neglect screen, drug screen, and be subject to random drug testing. Maintain conduct that promotes a positive image to staff, parents, agency and community. Understand responsibility of being a mandated reporter for Child Abuse and Neglect, read and understand Child Abuse and Neglect Policy.
