NATURE OF WORK:
Fulltime regular, non-exempt position that under the general direction of the Supervisor; monitors the safe delivery and disposal of solid waste at the assigned community collection center (Butterfield). Essential duties are performed primarily outdoors under various weather conditions. Employees are exposed to precarious situations, fumes, and airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, and extreme temperatures. The noise level in the work environment may be extremely loud when working with the compactor and other hydraulic equipment. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and South Central Solid Waste Authority (SCSWA) policies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Remotely supervised, Employee is responsible for opening and closing center according to set schedule.
- Directs safe traffic flow of all vehicles entering/exiting the station to the proper areas to unload such as green yard waste, E-waste drop off and scrap metal.
- Employee assesses residential loads and applies fees/punch cards accordingly.
- Performs vehicle load inspections and monitors incoming loads for unacceptable/prohibited materials.
- Maintains written records and logs of vehicles disposing of waste at an assigned Community Collection Center.
- Compacts trash, visually inspects and separates material to be dumped in compliance with hazardous disposal ordinances and to minimize illegal dumping of hazardous materials and other household waste using inappropriate containers.
- Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment at the center.
- Responsible for knowing and abiding by all SCSWA policies and procedures.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and one (1) year of full-time experience performing landfill or construction / labor duties. Basic Computer skills, Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred. Residence within ten (10) miles of collection station is preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with SCSWA policy.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must have general knowledge of laws, regulations and ordinances affecting the environmental processes; and methods to maintain accurate records. Must have skills in safely operating equipment; Must have the ability to interact diplomatically with the public in order to assure compliance with regulations, establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.
Licenses/Certification(s):
A valid driver’s license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with South Central Solid Waste Authority policy.
