What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Mentor position at South Coast Post Acute?
Job Functions:
Model professional communication skills, recovery-oriented living skills, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies for system management of mental illness.
Model and teach skills for residents to be empowered in reaching their recovery goals.
Support residents in communicating their recovery plans/goals to the tx team.
Maintain Standards of confidentiality and Patient's Rights.
Education:
Completion of mental health training course (such as NAMI Peer to Peer, NAMI Provider Education Course, NAMI in Your Own Voice) or its equivalent.
Must Have at least 2 years of experience proving direct services to individuals with a psychiatric illness (can be volunteer based experience).
Knowledge and skills sufficient to establish effective professional rapport with residents who have a mental illness.
Knowledge about mental illness, the recovery model, and components of psychosocial rehabilitation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Co-facilitate/assist with therapeutic groups as assigned by the Program Director and complete associated attendance logs/resident point sheets.
Attend and participate in staff meetings, treatment team meetings and interdisciplinary team meetings as assigned by the Program Director.
Attend community outings with the AT department and resident appointments with NSG or SW as assigned by the Program Director.
Assist in linking residents to community resources.
To observe and identify behavior problems and symptoms of mental illness and to communicate this information to the treatment team.
Specific Requirements:
Employee cannot have been admitted to Royale TRC or Royale Mission Viejo within 2 years prior to employment.
Employee will be required to attend Royale's facility orientation as well as attend and pass ProAct/RDT prior to starting in unit.
Comfort working in both acute and sub-acute environments and ability to tolerate escalating behavior.
Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbal and written.
Maintain a neat and clean appearance.
Present a positive, enthusiastic and flexible attitude.
